In 1989, I had the privilege of handling and scanning dozens of original M.C. Escher woodcut prints from his earliest days as an artist, as well as many of his later, more popular pencil sketches. The soft light and even reflection of an overcast morning countered with the graininess of 3200 film, 1/1000 second shutter, and sharp f32 focus made this pelican and rippling sea seem like something Escher had drawn and printed. |
